Hi Fellow Media Teachers,

I have found a great photography resource to use in your classes. The book is called "Photography of the Age” and provides a historical and contemporary context for some of the most famous images by some of Australia’s leading photojournalists published in the Age newspaper. It also provides information on why they these images were selected as well as technical information from the photographers themselves on how they were produced. The Author Kathleen Whelan is an experienced educator, artist and photographer.

I had Kathleen come and speak at a regional PD about her book and found it very informative. I’m always looking for resources to use and have found this one a great way to introduce analysis. It would also be useful for senior students interested in photojournalism.

 Are newspapers dead?

This second book on Photography of The Age by Kathleen Whelan looks at the impact of the digital age on professional photographers and again highlights the essential role they play in bringing to the people what is important; socially, politically and historically.

The Photography of The Age also provides historical context of some of the most famous images published, why they are chosen as well as technical information from the photographers themselves on how they produced such memorable images.
